Default Brake rotor question w/ YouTube vid

Hi everyone

I've got a nice shimmy when I hit the brakes at highway speed and knew it is probably warped rotors but wanted to see what shape the pads are in to determine if I should do new pads/rotors or just get my current ones turned.

Noticed that the drivers side has a bind so I made the vid. After watching, does it look like I need to rebuild the pistons? I've also notice a *pop* sound in the morning when I first leave and apply them while slowing down; use to get this on the 1996 after I did the brakes. Figured I messed the shim up but it never hurt perofmance so I left it be. On this car the brakes haven't been touched at all since I bought it.

Anyway, here is the vid I made just showing the binding. Thanks in advance!

That's not bad. If the rotor is still within thickness, have it turned. Might just be the pad sticking a bit due to road crud or a bent retaining pin. Clean that up and see how it does. If you notice any fluid or the piston seized, you'll know what to do.

take pad out check if there is any fluid coming out from piston seal
if yes you need to build caliper
if no check seize piston reinsert the brake pad and step on brake to push piston out and try to reset the piston with screw driver or pry bar by prying on brake pad to push piston back in . just like if you are installing new brake pad.

I also suggest having the rotors turned instead of replaced - rotors on our generation of LS aren't known for warping. The vibration on braking I had went away when I had a front brake job including machining the rotors last year. The original rotors measure the same thickness as when the car rolled out of the factory - darned good for a car with over 150,000 miles on it.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies!

I found the receipts from Midas and called them. Previous guy had them replaced in 2008 and ~50,000 miles ago. Midas said the warranty is non-transferable so I may call back later saying I'm the original guy ;0

Anyway, Midas guy said turning won't do anything but I don't believe him. My plan is to do it this weekend. Car is in right now getting a rust spot fixed. One of those fender ones from that black plastic thing. Hoping its ready Friday!

Wouldn't hurt to try. Good luck with it and get back to us with results.
