Default Smashed my mirror

While driving up to our vacation property on Thursday, I hit a large bird(I'm thinking a vulture) at about 70 mph. It hit my driver's headlight and swept along the side of my car, folding my mirror in and smashing the glass. Other than the broken mirror, there is no damage other than a few scuffs and scratches along the side of the car. At least the little bastard is dead.

Anyhow, I'm looking at replacements on Flea-Bay, and I'm wondering if those glass replacements have the little backing with the defroster setup? Two of the clips that hold it into the housing are broken, so I want to get the glass with the frame, etc. Anybody purchased one of these that could tell me if they come as a whole?

I can't speak for the item your actually looking at, but in the past when i have bought replacement OEM mirror glass, it would come with the defroster and plastic backing. The clips you speak of might be on the mirror housing itself, but Lexus probably sells them too.

I never had to buy a mirror yet but I have the perfect recipe to slow cook a vulture. You did keep the bird right?

all of a sudden I am not hungry......
I remember a conversation about broken mirrors with good photos on here a while back, you might do a search if no one comes forward with your answer. I had bought a 94 at one time with a cracked (RHS) glass and just got a stick on to cover it.... before I saw the link on the mirrors.
good luck..

After closer inspection, pretty much every replacement glass is an adhesive type. I don't like adhesive anything. Maybe it works, but maybe not. You never know what you're going to get with Fleabay.

I found a part on O'Reilly's website that should work fine, it says that it comes with the backing plate for about $23. I'll go in and see if my local store has it in stock tomorrow when I get home from vacation, and order it online if not. Driving in the city is going to be an adventure.

And no, I didn't keep the vulture. He tried to fly away, but I'm sure he died shortly. I was going at least 70 when I struck him.

It's been a hell of a weekend, the A/C has developed a major leak in my car. I recharged it on Thursday, it was almost empty today. So I guess it's time to start saving away until I have the $$$ to throw at that problem.
