Default transmission

how do i know if i need just a filter replaced or a tranny rebuild. if i start my car and put it in gear it will move but after only one minute it wont budge as if it is in park again. no loud noises.

My truck will do the same thing after it sits for an extended period of time. What is happenening is the fluid is draing out of the converter and needs to build pressure again. This is normal for if it has sat for a awhile. If it does it daily, I would start with a filter and fluid change first because it is way cheaper then a new trans. BTW when this happens with the truck, I put it in neutral for a minute or so and then it will act normally.
