Default Wrong black FIPG for transmission pan

I gave my mechanic two FIPGs. The black one for the water pump, and the red one for the transmission pan. He reverse the two when he did the job.

Will this cause a problem for the transmission? Or for the water pump?

Note:

Toyota black FIPG is # 00295-00103 (designed for oil pan or water pump)

Toyota red FIPG is # 00295-01281 (designed for the transmission pan)

(First gen, 1993 LS)

i personally don't think this would be a problem just as long as he applied the gasket uniformly.

possibly, and since it was his muck up i would take it back and at least make him redo the trans pan as it's relatively simple, and a written warranty to reseal the water pump if it ever starts to leak.

I am not too concerned with the water pump with the RED FIPG. The coolant just circulates and the water pump is not expensive if it ever goes bad. I have seen others use this RED FIPG at the water pump and it could very well be fine for a long time.

My question was really aimed at the chemical reaction, if any, between Toyota T4 ATF with the black FIPG at the transmission pan. For sure, it's not leaking now. As long as it does not leak, chances are it means there is no chemical reaction between the ATF and the black FIPG, and the transmission should be fine.

You are right though, doing the pan again is easy with the correct RED FIPG.

Is one tube of this stuff enough to re-seal an oil pan? Not doing it myself but want to make sure that I order enough for the job. How many tubes of the red do you need for the trans pan?

yeah one tube of orange FIPG is more than enough to do the trans pan.

One tube of the red seems to be enough for 5-10 transmission pans. (did it on my '91)

Is there no cork gaskets available for this transmission?

No doubt it's good, but I've never heard of a leak related to using the Permatex product instead of the Toyota product. A transmission pan is not going to leak if either one is used per the directions.

cork gaskets arent very effective in this type of application, original spec from lexus calls for red FIPG, no cork gasket.
