So I'm getting ready to start my full overhaul on my car this summer. I have decided I'm going to drop some money on making this thing a really nice cruiser. The engine and trans now have over 200k on them, and the engine is getting tired. The other day it started to spit out white smoke a little bit, so that, mixed with it being a little tired, I have decided its time to pull the engine and trans out. I have already ordered my transmission rebuild kit and will be doing that myself. I was going to rebuild the motor myself as well, but have been thinking about just purchasing a new long block. Does anyone know any place in Southern California that carries something like this? Obviously if its a reman'd long block, I dont mind, I just want something that has 0 miles on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Once I get the long block, I will be starting my build thread. The car will be getting a full overhaul with new paint, new interior, suspension, wheels and tires, the works. Looking forward to getting started, but want to to start with the engine and trans. I have done tons of searching, and I am hoping that someone on here may know where I can pick this up. Thanks guys!

If your compleatly rebuilding the motor, tecnicaly it will have 0 miles on it. What year is it? Cuz if you have the 1uz-fe then you should just have the block bored and honed and then get a stroker kit for the bottem end. If your going all brand new, go all out and make it a BEAST! It'll cost around the same anyway. I'm thinking of getting another. Motor to build up, so if you truly are getting a 100% new motor. Ill take the one you got.

please search, its more likely that your PS ACV is leaking fluid into your intake that's getting burned of rather than your bulletproof 1UZ having ring seal issues...

I think you missed the point of my post. I have searched. Im not looking for a solution to my car smoking. I am looking where to find a new or reman'd long block.

no idea on the long block but for perspective last i checked a Brand New SHORT block from Lexus went for ~$10,000.

frankly, unless a compression or leakdown test show significant deviation from expected values i think you're just wasting your money. a sluggish/tired 1UZ can be due to so much else (usually the ECU retarded timing for one of several dozen reasons) that combined with the general bullet-proof-ness of these engines i doubt yours is overly warn.

I agree with pure drifter I have 281,000 on a 91 LS400 and no loss of power I still get 25MPG on the open road 21 MPG in town and plenty of take off speed. I have never had a major problem with anything so far replaced some parts other wise this car is perfect. I do run synthetic fluids I don't know if this helps or not I have met people with 400,000 to 500,000 miles and the cars runs like new. Take a second look at your motor and see what could be wrong .

You can either buy a NEW long block from Lexus... OR... make the choice to buy a rebuilt engine that is MOST LIKELY of lesser quality than a used OEM. These engines use thin iron cylinder liners that IIRC are cast into place and are not readily replaceable. This leaves the rebuilding of a likely high mileage engine that either does not have the cylinders re-sized or has machining work done that has a good chance of being inadequate or even damaging.

It is normal for the stock factory assembled engine to go 300k miles or more. It is not uncommon for "rebuilt" engines to fail with well less than 100k miles. Personally, I would buy a JDM import replacement engine (factory assembled in Japan) over a "rebuilt" engine of questionable quality.
