Default HELP! Trans just went out

Transmission just went out. Wont get into any gear forward or reverse. Trans pump was whining and then soon as it stopped the trans stopped working. What other cars can I get a transmission from? Can I use a similar year SC400? The cars a 93 LS400 so I assume anything 90-94 with the 1uz and A340 should work?

Never had this problem, but I understand the Transmission will give you codes, have you tried this? how long did the tranny whine before it went out? Does your fluid smell burned?

it's not commen but i have seen a few of these transmissions go out over the years. It's best if you get one from as close as year and model as possible to minimize and differences in things like shift linkage's and gear ratios that may be different. That said the A340 was used in multiple applications and by several different company's. For Toyota alone they used it in Supras, GS400 and of course the SC400, Cressidas, 4runners and T100's and i'm sure im missing a handful of others. Also since it's an Aisin transmission theres tons of stuff if you want to try to rebuild it yourself but that is a very technical task. Good luck

Go on eBay and buy an OEM transmission. That's what I did when mine went out. Paid no more than $350 for it and had a 60 day warranty on it. Hope it works out for you.

This is what I would do as well, or find a local junkyard that has one. Check the fluid. The various yards, warranty may vary.

The a340 is mechanically identical from 1990-1994. The difference is the valve body (which can be swapped between generations). You can use the 90-92 trans and use your original valve body IF you have it cleaned of all metal residue. You should buy new solenoids and orings for the accumulators if you go that route.

I found out that rebuilding the old trans is not bad at all. The PITA part is removing and installing the trans.

I was going to go with the junk yard route too but the cheapest i could find at the time was $600 with only a 15 day warranty. The junk yard seller on ebay that i bought from was a way better deal. Their policy was if i receive the transmission, have it installed and if it didn't work they could either send me another transmission free of charge or refund my money including the shipping fee which was outstanding.

the seller is :billsmithautoparts if it helps the op any.

This is what causes people problems. Its not an A340, its an A341 transmission. The valve body is IDENTICAL casting numbers between the 2. They dfiference in 8/1992 was that a trans temp sensor was added. Thats it.

unless your car is a cali spec, then you'll have to find a cali transmission. if not, depends on your production month. it can be either 3500050070 for 08/92-94 or 3500050013 for 90-08/92.
