Default VIP material!! 1998 LS

This is my LS400, i know its all oem but i'm definitely inspired by VIP cars to make mine Vip'dout. i want to start with small things first and then work my way up considering the VIP lifestyle isn't inexpensive. Her name is Lexy by the way. let me know what you think.

welcome and yeah, the money adds up when modding for the VIP/EXE look.

one weird thing is that your car has the wood steering wheel but the leather shift **** I may need kansas to chime in here but I thought that they were only optioned together.

I noticed and thought the same thing, but figured some one might have swiped his shifter **** and used a cheap replacement.

LOL, all I know is what I read in the option list - that the "Wood and Leather Trim Steering Wheel and Shift ****" came together as a $330 (retail) option for the 1998 model year: http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/1998/1998LSspecs.pdf

Nice cars. I also just purchased a blk/blk 1999 LS400 with 154K miles on it last week. I also had a
2000 GS400 in Specta Blue. I traded my GS400 after ten years of ownership for a 2007 G35S and recently traded the G35 in, and now I am back to Lexus again with my LS400. Day and night difference in comfort when compared to the GS. What suspension setup are you planning to run? I am considering BC racing coilovers. Where in CA are you located?

i know about the gear shifter, the dealer ship we bough it from had two Lexus's sitting right next to each other and there was this one and a 97, the 97's never had woodgrain steering wheels or shifters and when they got the car ready for us to take home, they ended up giving us the shifter for the 97 . i wished i still had the woodgrain and i plan on getting it back someday. hahaha, my dad wasn't really worrying about it too much when he bought the car because he got for a deal of a lifetime, he paid 28k in 01 for a car that was still at the dealer for 40k+. the dealer still doesn't believe how much we paid for it and they insisted that it was in a wreck and they did a THOROUGH in spection and they were shocked that he got that car for 28k, all the people at the dealership were congratulating. hahaha it would look better with the leather shift ****.

Actually ... quite a few 97's came with a wood and leather gear shift **** - it was part of the Coach Edition option package: http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/1997/1997LSspecs.pdf

That still wouldn't explain why the dealer would switch gear shift ***** -- maybe the wood/leather **** on the 98 was damaged so he put the 97 leather **** on the 98.

Yep... 97 Coaches got a wood/leather ****. IIRC the UCF20 used a different type of wood from the UCF21s.

Anyways, amazing UCF21 you got there, very clean! I was going to get a black/black 2000 but... My car sits outside. So I went with a 97 Silver Jade Pearl Coach.

Question for you; why do the smaller things first? I'm curious to see what "smaller things first" you will be doing... I would say do suspension and wheels first. These cars already have a street presence for "upper class" (despite the fact you see them being driven all over the place lookin shagnasty") it's how you project the appearance of your vehicle.

Again, just curious of what "small things" you're talking about, because seeing a LS rolling around looking like a offroad truck with Garson/Junction Produce stuff on the inside is not a pretty sight. Haha.

Good luck with the build and nice LS.

I got the same car. It's a 99' black on black. Not quite as clean as yours, but it's gonna get a makeover soon.

** Are you going to the Dublin meet this Sat? I will be bringing my LS out there, let's meet up and chat about future mods..hahaha

He's got a UCF20, unless he's got air suspension...
