Question Solenoid Problem

I'm currently debating a problem on my 1995 LS400 with 170K miles. The car has been great and other than some minor repairs it has served me well. Right now, from what I've read thru Club Lexus is the solenoid "E" is just about gone. Drives like a tank when coming to a stop. My mechanic (who I trust) recommends to replace the entire tranny with a used one. Says he has seen too many times that when he replaces one solenoid, then others fail shortly thereafter and he gets the brunt of the complaints from clients with additional fees. I'm kind of leaning toward replacing the solenoid only since that seems to be the only issue with the transmission and the shifting is quiet and smooth. What do you members recommend?

If another solenoid going bad soon after replacing one will make you mad, I recommend replacing the tranny.
