YES!!!
Sig changing time again!
Finally got to run in GOOD air!
Traction is now a serious problem. I thinking Limited Slip Differential time...
Anyway, for now... here are the stats, I will post a pic of the slip soon.
R/T - .636
60' - 2.229
330 - 6.222
1/8 - 9.468
MPH - 76.00
1000' - 12.252
1/4 - 14.577
MPH - 97.29
Air temperature: 72 degrees F
Barometer: apx 30.05 in/mercury
Wind: calm
Well, I hope I made some jealous GS400 owners

Oh yeah, they finally repaired the scale. My LS400 with me in it, just under a 1/2 tank of gas, no spare/jack/etc. weighs 3991 lbs.
For the fun of it I pulled up a horsepower calculator at
http://www.4racecars.com/calculators...alculator.html
and it gave me what I consider the VERY optimistic result copied below.
"Horsepower Results - 1/4 Mile Method
Your Lexus weighs about 3991 pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 14.57 seconds. That means that you've got about 255.03 HP at the wheels, and about 331.54 HP at the flywheel."
I will pull up a couple more and get some other opinions!
http://www.corral.net/tech/horsepower.html
"The Corral - Horsepower Estimator
Your trapspeed was 97.29 miles per hour
and your vehicle weight was 3991 pounds.
You are making 293 hp."
http://www.dsm.org/tools/calchp.htm
Using the ET method, I come up with 255 horsepower
Using the Speed method, I come up with 287 horsepower
http://www.nismo.org/test/hp.html
Trap Speed 97.29
Weight of Vehicle (Including Driver) 3991
Your Vehicle has 319 Horsepower

AWESOME!
See, now shoouldn't my car be able to run these kind of numbers? It's the same engine, just your year has another 10-15 HP.
Looks like your airbox mod and the good weather are paying off. Does the GS run these kinds of times?
BTW I found a 1996 black/black..just gotta call and see if it's still there..;-)

Sorry Lee, my engine is NOT the same. Same size yes but it is a 99 with the vvti variable valve timing w/intelligence. Stock rating is 290hp/300tq. Yours is a 1st gen with 250hp/260tq. I used to have a 96 with 260hp/270tq and out of 3 runs total my best was a 15.4 @ 91mph.
Factory ratings by engine:
250hp (1990-1994) 0-60mph: 8.0, 1/4 mile: 16.0
260hp (1995-1997) 0-60mph: 7.1, 1/4 mile: 15.6
290hp (1998-2000) 0-60mph: 6.3, 1/4 mile: 14.8
for the 95 year cars the weight was reduced and power was increased both in peak readings and more importantly throughout the curve.
for 98 the car got the vvti engine and power went up as did rpm and torque went up at a lower rpm giving a much broader power curve. These cars also got 5 speed transmissions that deliver a better power curve and hence performance.
Drivetrain loss in these cars is higher than many others due to the complexity and weight of the engine, converter, trannys and independant rear suspension. A common rear wheel horsepower (rwhp) number for a 250hp LS is 180hp. On a 290hp car it is around 220hp. On the 300hp GS400s it is around 230hp. As I ran tonight I guess to be making 230-240rwhp... a good 50-60hp over a properly running 250hp LS and I don't think yours is properly running based on your other posts of 9+ second 0-60s

Actually, times differ depending on many things and in all fairness I did not have a spare tire or jack (apx 70lbs) or rear mufflers (apx 30lbs) but I did go pretty quick!!!
Here are the factory claims from www.lexus.com:
2002 LS430
http://www.lexus.com/cpo/model_library/ls_02.html
0-60 mph acceleration 6.3 seconds
1/4-mile acceleration 14.7 seconds
2002 GS430
http://www.lexus.com/cpo/model_library/gs430_02.html
0-60 mph acceleration 5.8 seconds
1/4-mile acceleration 14.3 seconds
1999 LS400
http://www.lexus.com/cpo/model_library/ls_99.html
0 - 60 mph acceleration 6.3 seconds
1/4-mile acceleration 14.8 seconds
BTW, each of those sites has a bunch of good data, worth a read.

Something to consider. I ran the 14.5 on a 2.229 60ft. With an LSD I am confident of a 2.0. On my old TBird I cut 1.9s on street radials.
Whatever you save in 60fts is generally good for 1.5x times the savings off the 1/4. That same pass less .35 seconds (0.229 x 1.5) yields a low 14 ala 14.22 (14.57 - .35)
A TC would put me in the 13s

Very imperessive!! I will be going to a drag racing event with my other car club and I am considering taking my 1995 LS400 and making some runs. My car is stock other than an open cone I put on. I ordered the cone to fit right over where the stock airbox was removed. The air passage in the front is now aimed directly at the open cone. I had to make a small bracket to keep the cone from resting on the steel lines below it, but that was it. Took 15 minutes and the difference was VERY noticeable! What do you think I could run in the 50 degree weather we have here? Any launching or shifting tips you could give would also be appreciated! Again, VERY nice times!!

1. Your vehicle will not see 1.5x 60' ET gain at the end of the track. You will see 1.1-1.2x gain at the most for a car with your traction capabilities and horsepower. To note, you will likely see a drop in 1/4 mph with improved 60' ET.
2. I estimate you would gain -0.2s ET at the most in 1/4 with only a TC due to your current "one-leg" differential setup (traction). Add an LSD with the TC, and you will land solid low 14's and possibly have a chance at the low 13's given optimal weather and track conditions.
I am certainly impressed with your ET given the weight of your car and minimal mods. I think you are only a TC, LSD, and a 50 degree day at the track with 25mph tail winds away from the 13's! Good luck.
