Default Windshield

Just thought i would put in my experience with a replacement. Mine was pitted and had two bulls eye on it. After hearing about some issues with quality and fit i just wanted to hold off. But after my last road trip the pits just bothered me too much.

Got a quote for $190.00 installed. Turned out to be PGW glass which i think now owns PPG glass. Anyway the install went very smooth took an hour, Didn't break any trim did replace the clips that hold glass in. Looks as good as new and a whole lot better to see out of. No distortion looking thru it.

No extra wind noise no extra nothing. Only wish i heard about PGW acoustic glass but so far i am very happy with it.

BTW went to American Glass.

I also had mine replaced, it was cracked when I bought it, dont know what brand they used, but also replaced the top chrome trim. and I love it, so clear, most of my other LS's had thousands of tiny pits that bothered me when the sun hit it at a certain angle. cost was $160.

Good to know. Mine has an unrepairable chip in it and last winter, ice formed on the wipers and when I went to turn them on, it weighed them down caused the metal end on the driver's side wiper to leave a nice big scratch the length of the wiper path. I've been quoted at $210 by the same people who replaced the windshield in my old Accord.

does anyone know if the ls400 windshield fits the celsior?
I doubt it as the sc300/400 shield doesnt fit the soarer
and the gs300 shield doesnt fit the aristo.

The part numbers don't seem to match but that doesn't mean it wouldn't fit.

Is this total repair or just labor. I thought the windshield was over $1,000. Mine is pitted real bad and have been wanting to replace.

they're using aftermarket replacements.

my experience with most aftermarket windshields is that they rarely hold up the same as OEM over time, esp. with the later '98-00 glass being anti-UV coated.

When i need to replace my windshield I'll find a clean one at a local junkyard and have a glass guy install it with new OEM trim.

the one I replaced was in my 96, and it may fall out in the morning and make PD smile, but it is over 6 months old and just as clear as "not having one" and yes 160 was total cost.... so I could put 6 of them in before I reached OEM cost. At least I am satisfied.

lol bill, i know the aftermarkets work fine (at first) but with age they tend to pit/chip a lot easier.

some higher end aftermarket pieces may not, but when a used but mint OEM windshield can be had (here in cali) for ~$120-150 + ~$50-70 for install, may as well

Here is a little glass info from PGW. AGC makes most glass for Japan cars and some US. So a lot of OEM glass is of course made by at least one of these two companies. All it takes is a stamp on the windshield to make it a oem.

Still very happy with my choice and the newer cars with hi-tech gadgets will probably have higher cost windshields.

Thanks guys for this thread. I had been saving up for a windshield Like I said I thought it would be at least $1,000 up to $1,400. After see this thread I called local and found a Glass company that will do it for $210 with a lifetime warrenty or $180.00 with a year warrenty and they have it in stock. I will be seeing clear this week and get my wife off my tail. She B's everytime we are driving into the sun!!!
