Default Sclass or Ls

I am a huge lexus fanatic but unfortuantely I have to Admit that an s class benz far out does the Ls just due to the mere fact that it comes in 4 diffferent models. Howver price is always better on a lex cuase you get more for your buck but If One can afford it there is no luxry car out on the general market that can touch a 600 V12 benz. Also the s class has more prestige and elegant styling then an ls since its a japanese car verse a german car there is a marginal difference in styling and performance.

Oh oh.
You might be angering some LS guys with that comment of Lexus being inferior to the German counterparts.
Your asking for others opinions but it seems you already made up your mind on what you want.
Either way in my view they are both great cars for the money and it only comes down to what you want.
The Ls has traits the S can't compare to as in customer service and non of those electrical problems as in the S has the history and better performance engine.

I must say though that Lexus is building a nice history for themselves also.

Lexdub99!

I respect your opinion, but how in the world can you say the LS can't compare to the S. For your info many Benz owners gave up on there 'German' rides which is suppose to out perform Lexus and bought a LS and were much happier! Who the hell care's about a V12? How many are out there? When Lexus is ready to drop their V12, it will be all over for Benz, BMW and all the other always in repair shop car makers out there... So don't ever try to down the LS especially if you're a CL member...

I love my 99 LS but admit that there are times that I wish I had a Benz... an AMG that is Lexus needs someone like LSportline to become a tuner and produce limited edition HiPo Lexus automobiles. Turbocharged/Supercharged engines, serious brakes and handling. AMG and M class BMWs prove there is a market. Heck, I see a current gen convertible M3 nearly every day.

IMO, the only time Benz is> than Lexus is the AMG models. These are incredible cars Lexus has no competition for.

Actually the Benz sales rep steered me away from S600 V12 saying that it had very hard resale value due to high maintance problems

Since we seem to be in a dream world (don't see the day, when cars start falling out of the sky and we get our pick of LS430, S55AMG, or a S600 coming any day soon )
However if I do win the lottery one of these days, I'll get a LS430 for $55K for when I want travel in comfort, Z06 (Corvette) for around $50K for when I want to terrorize S55 and S600 owners, and dontate the rest of what it would have cost me to get a S600 or a S55 AMG to charity.

Just my .$02:

I happen to know the onwer, and yet the owner still says that he wants to get the LS (but where he lives, the LS430 costs more than the MBS500).

All I can say is gosh, the two-tone interior color is garish. Otherwise, a fine car.

Why compare cars that are 30-40-50,000 apart?

I don't see how having four different "models" necessarily makes a particular model any better. I've been told (not sure, correct me if I'm wrong) in Europe they also release an LS300. And there are upcoming plans to release an LS500. That makes the total model count three; is the "LS-class" now a better car than before?

There are better luxury cars than an S600; try Rolls-Royce or Bentley or even the upcoming Maybach. At the RR price point, you're not driving, you've got Mr. Chauffeur to do that for you. Furthermore, you don't have versions of your own car with smaller engines (a la S500/S430) running around to confuse the public. You want prestige? A Rolls-Royce will out-do an S600 any day. An RR may be twice (or more) the price of an S600, but guess what, an S600 is over twice the price of an LS430. Not an entirely fair comparison.

I will grant you that I personally prefer the MB styling, and I am more than willing to put up with the little reliability "gremlins." But not a lot of people are, and hence Lexus' reliability is quite the draw for many consumers.

Actually a nearly new low mileage Rolls Royce Silver Spur II can be had around here for around $70,000-$80,000.00, the price of an S-class...

I cannot justify what MB wants for a S500 etc. For that price I am coming home with a LS430, full JDM setup and turbo IS300 Maybe even a BMW 745LI with 22" Hartges, and still have 20 or $30,000 left over. What exactly is worth $30,000 more for a S500, what does $30,000 give you over what the LS430 has?

How much is the v12 setup like $110,000 or more? Just to say you have a V12? I will brag about my v12 when i bring home a lambo, if ever

I can't comment on the cardboard floormats, I believe he just got the car for a few days. One bad news on the car: the engine everheated and shut down during one of his first test drive.
I personally haven't driven the car.

However, he was quite nice for getting me a '02 LS430. Nice car so far, except for continuing rattles from somewhere behind/inside the instrument panel/steering wheel console.
