Default New here and new to these cars help wanted..

Ok so im a new member here and soon to be a new LS400 owner, how ever i was wondering if you guys could toss some pointers up about, like were to look for common rust issues, what yr had what problems etc...

I'm looking at a few different cars right now, mostly 93's nothing older then 92 or newer then 94 and they all seem to be in the 300,000KMS area, should i be scared of this or is this a ok thing?

i only ask this as my friend and i ar curious to know if the motor is a cast block with aluminum heads or all cast or all aluminum. he seems to think it will have timing issues and i should not buy any of these cars......

the more info the better please, also feel free to post up links and such that will help me out.

Thanks,
Brandon.

I have owned 4 Lexuses, 3 LS 400's and an SC400. all 91-92. Im not sure why you will not go lower than 92, the 90-91 are identical. The most important thing is that the car has been serviced at a Lexus dealer, then with the VIN u can find out all the maint done to the car. My most recent car is a 91 that i bought with 120K miles. It had great maint records.. and I am very happy with it. I have not really heard of rust issues with these cars, but i guess that depends on where u live. Try to get a car with the fewest owners that u can... Good luck!

94 and under LSs are non interference motors so if the timing belt were ever to break on you, you'd simply be stranded with no catastrophic engine damage. 90-94 are all the same, just with minor differences in options. i would def get the newest possible year that your budget can afford. newer = less miles (in your case kms). but don't be turned off on high mileage cars. if the owner took good care and kept the maintenance up these cars will last up well above 200k miles.

I've got 202K Km on my new-to-me '92.
The dealer did a 7 hour inspection on it (for the previous owner), changing all the fluids, plugs, etc.
Runs like a top. No expected issues for the next 50K.
As others have said, with Lexus maintenance, I'm aiming for hi hi mileage. 500K for starters!
