Default A couple key replacement questions!

Hey all I am looking to replace my key as its getting pretty frail and the battery is dying. I have a couple of questions that I want to firm up before I go spending a couple hundred on a new key without knowing exactly what I will need to get it functioning. As most of the threads that I found through searching had to do with people loosing their master key I just wanted to double check the process since I still have a master key.

The car is a 98, and I DO have 1 master key/fob and the vallet key as well.

1.) are there any other reliable companies that carry the OEM key other than the dealer?

2.) After I get the key it will need to be cut by either a dealer or a high end locksmith with experience with cutting lexus keys, correct?

3.) after I get the key and have it cut I use the programming process outlined in the PDF file provided in this thread (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...y-dilemma.html Post 12) and I should be all set?

Really hoping this is all I need to do so I can stop cursing this broken/dead key every time I have to get into and start the car!

TIA!

1-i've bought a fair few key shells from ebay without any problems they're the "denso" marked keys. I've also picked up a couple of the transponder Master keys (without remotes) and they've worked well for me as spares.

2-Most lexus dealers charge you an arm and a leg to cut blanks, if they touch your non-lexus blanks at all that is. Better of finding a locksmith in your area or within a reasonable drive that cuts the keys for you. I've got a little mom and pop place near me that does it for PEANUTS compared to the $70-80+ the local dealers were asking.

3-yes. will take a couple tries usually but yes. a tip, if you're just replacing a broken remote master key shell with a new shell/blade, you won't need to reprogram as in that case the transponder is in the remote guts.
