Best Air Filter for 2000 LS400?
Hey guys,
I need an air filter change for my car it's mighty dirty...After seeing K+N's that let dust through over time I do not want a K+N...
Does amsoil make a filter that fits these cars? Are there any other good filtering performance filters out there that will flow like a K+N but filter like a paper and don't need reoiling?
Thanks in advance

A CLEAN ONE!!!
lol in all honesty they practically all do the same thing, unless some performance intake, which would bring practically NOTHING to the table, just a waste of dollars.
get the cheapest one, and replace it every 4-5 oil changes. simple and done.

I can vouch for this. I live in the southwest, very dusty, I had a kn on my 4runner and after using it form a while the clean side of my intake was full of dust. This was a preoiled new kn filter so there should be no discussion on if I oiled it correctly. Put an off the shelf filter and there is no dust in the intakes clean side. By the way, before I realized that the kn did not filter good I was thinking of putting a kn in my Avalon so I compared acceleration between a stock filter and no filter and there was absolutely no difference. This is with the stock air box.

OEM for me too.
Off hand from past threads, the Napa Gold was on the mentioned list.
With media like this, higher flow from a similar sized surface area comes at the trade of particulate matter getting through. How small it is to cause problems...IDK. I'm more conservative these days so factory is fine with me.

K&N is a great filter for racing applications where there's not a lifetime between engine rebuilds.
for daily driving though, the oil+cotton filter doesn't filter as effectively, though does have better flow.
to be honest, my favorite dry aftermarket filters are the Apex'i and AEM dry flow filters, but they arent made in a round panel for our cars, and switching to cone isn't worth it as you lose the stock cool air intake.
stock paper filters when properly used and replaced when sufficiently dirty give the best combination of flow and filtration on a stock or mildly modified LS.

Buddy had a Tacoma with a K&N that he took off-road often, he found quite a bit of georgia red clay dust on the "good" side of the filter. if you hold one up to the light you can actually see the holes in the media , not to mention the oil on MAF issue, an LS400 that is for the most part pavement will see less dust but there is still some. IMO a K&N filter only real use is for track race use, cars that see few miles, not a daily driver that is expected to go 300K
Just put a fresh OEM filter in mine it was reasonably inexpensive from Sewel Lexus, just over $20 IIRC
