Default Electrical chaos - press brake motor dies, panel lights quit

Have a '91 LS400 - yesterday I noticed the instrument panel flicker and the needle lights fail intermittently seemed to get better.

Today while driving 45mph steady - radio cut out on and off, followed by dash panel going to black when I pressed the brake and then motor died. Had to veer off road - started again after five minutes would run a few minutes and random lights would come on and off all indicator lights came and went then motor died.

Sometimes the panel would blacken with pressing of brake pedal and other times motor would quit with pressing of brake.

Any ideas??? I don't have a clue where to start - battery's very recent but started would act like battery was low, then work fine a few minutes later.

Car will be towed to its death soon!! Desperate for a clue

Default Appreciate the help

I was guessing alternator, but had fears about the dashboard logic circuit box, which sounded pretty expensive.

Thanks, will check it out
