Well, actually I did not say that. But, the ECU is not where I would start the diagnosis on the issue. Let the Dealer do all he's going to do! You get new parts in the tune up area which are not cheap. I will warn you to not put aftermarket wires, caps, rotors or plugs in it. Do it once and do it with Denso....

They will pull their hair out by Friday evening. My guess is they wont have a clue! If they cant figure it out I will try to help you. I have an idea what it is and it will require some hands on to fix, a few parts from a Lexus Dealer and a bit of time!

Sure hate giving up the LS though. its been a great car. And the mechanical issues have been fun. I have learned a lot about the differences between Lexus and Ford and they are not so far apart in a lot of ways. Except durability. I don't think Ford can match Lexus on that. now that you have seen her from the inside, take a look at the outside.
Put a set of late (06) 18" Chrome LS wheel and tint those windows and that would be a really nice ride IMHO, lol. The body really still looks nice! I dont know what the inside looks like since you cleaned it up....

The black, 450k 91 in my picture here has the 06 GS430, non chrome wheel. I like that it is updated but didn't want the chromie/flashy thing going on. In my opinion the chrome on black and all you see is wheels. But that white one would look great!

Oddly enough my daily driver is a 2000 F250 7.3l and don't ask me to give it up!

Your description of the problem does not lend itself to motor mounts in my opinion. But, if you look at my ranking, I'm still a Rookie too!

Let us know how it turns out.

03 f250 6.0L. 17 MPG loaded in town, pulling a trailer. I'm not surrendering that one either. Your cool Skul, I'm done with this thread. I agree on the wheels. If I could only keep her.

Like SkulCracka said, you need to see which caps you need, write it down, and go get them. I can see wanting to drive with some A/C but come on dude, it's 20 minutes being hot, it ain't gonna kill ya. I had to drain my A/C last winter when I fixed my heat so this whole summer (one of the hottest we've ever had) I went without A/C. I've worked 30 years with insulation in hot attics up to 150*-170* for 8-10 hours straight, and you're complaining about 20 minutes. You need to pull the ECU out. How long is that gonna take you, 20 minutes?

Ya don't like the heat, get out of the fire.

Yeah it's rough awright, working 2 jobs for so many years and then side work working on cars on the weekends just to support a family. (cuz the dumb broad didn't work) That's why I got divorced after my 3 kids got older, so I could relax.
But anyway, let us know how it works out after ya get the caps and put them in.

Well, looked at the innards of the ecu, 94 is totally different, had about a dozen caps that look ready to go but they are so small and so tightly soldered to the board that I think maybe i'll see if I can find a replacement ecu from a junkyard. Weather finally broke and I am back in the landcruiser anyway. This car has been the most frustrating peice of ---- I have owned. Mechanically it's great, electrically, its a nightmare.

Everyone needs to have an ex who refused to work........it builds character. (just in case it does nt show, this is offered up with sarcasm. Really wouldnt wish lazy ex syndrome on anyone.........)

Fuel Pump- wife said car runs like fuel pump is going out so to shut...er I mean to satisfy her diagnosis, I installed a new one.
tp sensor- code 41 - car runs better, still jerks.
water pump- actually found broken bolt in pump causing coolant loss
thermostat- just seemed like a good idea at the time
cam sensors- code 13, since water pump. I installed used sensors and harness but car runs better, problem still there.
cleaned grounds on left and right fenders- no affect
cleaned maf- runs worse, $160.00 at junkyard, car runs better still. problem still there.
Cams are in sync with crank and each other. coolant is full.
put 4 gallons of gas in yesterday.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 92 LS400, it has been driving me nuts for over a year now. Runs fine for awhile, then Jerks (like the fuel pump shuts off), was worse going up hill, The traction control light has been on for years, power weak, fuel mileage dropped by about 3-4 MPG.
Been reading the Forums for years trying to figure out the problem. Every time I did something it got partially better then reverted. changed plugs & wires, changed fuel filter, changed fuel pump relay resistor. For some reason it would have much more power when I bypassed the fuel relay resistor.
a few days ago I came across a Forum article on how the Computer capacitors were junk in the 89-97 toyota's and often would leak and damage the control board.
So I ordered the Capacitors for mine (really cheap, like $5 for 10 of them). took about an hour to remove the old ones and solder in the new ones (I am a fair solderer not a good one). Put it in the car and 2 of them popped (I did not know there was a positive and negative terminal, so I think I put them in backwards) Luckily I had ordered some extras (because I have a spare computer, ECU, for the car and figured I would do it as well. Anyway, after replacing the 2 that popped (in the same direction as the 7 that did not pop) I put the ECU back in and the car is finally running like it used to. And the traction light is no longer on.
If you do a search for LS400 ECU repair, you will find the exact instructions and the list of the capacitors for every year and model.
Hope this helps: Bob
