I just checked out the tutorial on lexlx about changing the oil and filter. It appears you have to remove the engine "under cover" to do this.
Is this true? If so, what happens when I go to my normal oil change place (normal for my other cars)? I don't think they're up to speed on removing parts to change the oil. In fact, I'm sure they're not. They're morons!
And, I'm not going to take it to Lexus to change the oil on a ninety-freaking-four car.
Anyone?

its a plastic panel that covers the bottom of the motor. held on with upto 10......10mm bolts.

should take about a minute to remove if youve never ever seen one........20 seconds if its familiar.

DIY if inclined. Takes me about 20-30 minutes to do the routine at a leisurely pace. That way some shop monkey doesn't break your undercover. Otherwise, find a better shop where they don't have ham fisted people working.

oh, and its for the oil filter mostly.....its for a less mess situation.
like a nissan frontier with a 2.4 , a nissan pathfinder, any volkswagon,bmw, mercedes,audi, any infinity, a chrysler 300, charger...any toyota truck. a 4x4 dodge durango......you get the idea...
its nothing, just a couple extra seconds

The lex dealer who serviced the car prior to my ownership cut two slits off the edge of the cover at the location of the filter. I just bend the cut part down when I take the filter off. It pops back up when I am completed. You can't tell it's been cut unless you crawl under the car. It still acts as a good splash guard.

Mine was missing when i bought my car. Thought about getting a new one but the cost seems a bit steep. Like it better with it gone easier to to oils and to make a quick check under it. Not sure what it really safe guards from but don't hurt much either. Guess if you live in a heavy snow area where road salt is in issue than leave it on.

This is common with todays cars. My wifes Passat is the same. No big deal. If your oil change station complains, you need to find another.

This is the main reason there's all the covers on todays engines. It's alot easier to take off one dirty piece of plastic then to work on a completely dirt covered engine. (You know how bad they can get) There shouldn't be any mechanic at any shop that has a right to complain about taking it off, it's part of thier job description. "Mechanic".
What's next? Charge extra to take off a tire to change the brakes? It's amazing what some of these "moron" shops get away with.
DIY and ya don't need to worry about any moron screwing anything up, except yourself.

splash is a secondary reason for the guards. It is to improve aerodynamics, decrease turbulent flow under the car to decrease lift. It's part of the reason why our cars have a .27 drag coefficient.
