Default TT LS400 Prototype

Hey Gang,

After months of planning, drawing, reading, searching, buying and waiting. I finally took a hugh leap into the TT project. I took my car to a local muffler shop and stall the turbos. The turbos are low mount in place of the OEM cats.

Initially, the cats were removed and part of the Y pipes were cut due to space reasons. The turbos are mounted in place of OEM cats with 3" down pipe. Since i need to drive the car home that night, the shop also made me a temperory pipe.

The total hours of non-stop work were about 8 hours. The hardest problem was space. The pictures you see below are just rough welding. It needs to be cleaning up with coating.

The turbos are Nissan Skyline T3 BB made by Garrett. The turbos are from Japan with about 30k miles on it, but the wheel spin freely.

As you see, the turbos are not fully install to the car because when i got my camera, the welding already finished the driver side turbo, therefore i only got pictures of the temp. pipe.

The hardest part was the passager side turbo. The space is so limited. We tried all orientations possible to mount the turbo. Finally for the given space, the turbo is slightly lower than the rest of the car.

All the pipe being used on the turbos are mandrel bend 3" tubes. Today, i will used a high temperature coating for the look and protection of the tubes.

While i was driving home with the temperory pipe. The car felt at least 20 hp more. It peels off very easy. Without the cat, the car have a lower tone.

Pictures will follow in minutes

Sorry Retro,

No intercooler. It wil be methanol/water injection for stage II. Stage wil run without intercooler. If you want, you can add Methanol/water injection.

Picture:

Temperary pipe for driving home. Driver side. Noticed the 02 sensor is installed.

The quality is no can be compare to HKS or Greddy, but this is my project. I am making this for ME. The rough welding will be grind down today with high temp spray.

Next phrase would be working on the intake adaption. By no mean this kit is complete. It has long way to go, but its a good start.

hh, congradulations on taking the PLUNGE!!!

Observations:

Low mount turbos have several advantages but some disadvantages also.

Advantages:
Low center of gravity.
Minimal exhaust plumbing.
Cooler underhood environment.
Stealth appearance.

Disadvantages:
Oil scavenge system and pump and required.
Long/tricky air inlet/outlet pathways.
Higher likelyhood of damage.

Good luck with progress. Love to see this project make good power. Have you decided how you are going to get more fuel to the engine?
