Default Clear coat coming off my 98 on rear driver door

The clear coat on my 98 is coming off on the rear driver's side door. I want to do something before it continues to get worse. This is the only spot on the car that is doing it, any ideas on what I can do? I was thinking about sanding it down and getting some Lexus aerosol paint and clear coat, I was hoping I could just sand to the body line (edge) near the top of the door.

*After some searching it appears that Lexus didn't use a clear coat on their Black Onyx cars?! If the car doesn't even have a clear coat what is this peeling?

complete cleacoat failure, can't be saved.

you can make it look better by having a detailler compound the hell out of it and then layer it up with wax, but its just going to get worse (even if you keep it clean+waxed constantly). only solution is a PROPER repaint. none of this spray-can crap.

and heads up, Lexus/Toyota don't sell the paint they used on your car, they'll sell you a tiny tin of touch-up paint, but you can't paint with it. no such thing as "oem paint."

i used to think that 202 didnt have clearcoat but apparently they started to change that in the late 90s, my '99 does.

Great, obviously I cannot afford to repaint the whole door and would it even be worth it on a 98? It is close to moving down the door, I've had the car for coming up 2 years and it has gotten way worse. It is only on this door though.

Maybe the door was previously repainted cheaply.

+1. Other areas would also be exhibiting this issue opposed to just one door.

check the roof and rear bumper, that's where the paint gets the most abuse/exposure. if it's on the door it's probably elsewhere too. mine is showing similar failure though not quite as bad yet.

PD do you have a clear bra on your bumpers? The UV protection helps but then, I've had mine re-sprayed so it is pretty fresh considering. The film on mine begins to get a faint yellow/amber hue at ~2 years. Obvious on the pearl white but the dark colors aren't obvious.

no clearbra mike, my front's been resprayed once but the rear is all original, and the paint is just burning to hell.

There is a small spot or two on the hood and one on the trunk lid but nothing like that door, the other 3 doors aren't at all.
