Used LS430 or new 2002 ES300?
I need opinions on a car purchase. I am looking at paying 35K out the door on a new 2002 ES300 w/o Nav or ML or buying a 2001 LS430 with 55k miles on it with the ML/Nav package and chrome stock 17 inch wheels offered at 41K (hopefully I can get it for a better price). Opinions and/or advice?
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!

Go with the LS430 providing you can get an extended warranty. You'd be much happier in the long run. Despite the mileage, if you can get it at a lower price that would be ideal.

35K for an 02 without Levinson and Navi sounds a bit high in my opinion. I'd go with the used LS430 myself. It's an incredible car, and always gets respect as one of the finest sedans in the world.

For $41k you can find a LS430 with less miles. I have seen them with around 20k miles.
I would not even compare the two cars. Honestly the ES is a glorified Camry. Not to knock it its is a great car for the price but not in the same leauge as the LS. New yes they are both great Lexus but 5 years down the road the LS is still an Awsome Lexus!
People see 12 year old first gen LS and still google over them. You never really look twice at an old ES.....
Just my opinion

I agree with Jerry 100%, there is no comparison between the LS430 (or LS400) and ANY year ES300 (aka the high content Camry). As long as you're not one of those guys who 'has to buy new' then start shopping and eventually you'll find a good deal on a low-moderate mileage LS430.
Good Luck.

Lexus Champion
go with a LS430, not because of anything about the ES being camry like, but just because it's a better car. THe LS is flagship, why buy lower in the lineup if you can get the top car for a little more?
oh yeah, and on personal note, i love driving my Dad's LS430 much more than my 94Es with the sounds system and videoscreen

can u get the extended warranty for this LS430?? cuz the car is over 50K ... u might need to compare the insurance cost, and also the maintance cost since V8 is always expensive on everything...
Hwer, if I were u, I will get LS for sure!! more speed, room and status !!! just shop around then u will find a good one!

i also say LS!! 35K IS a little tad bit much for the ES, but both are nice cars...just one is much nicer. IMO you should test drive both for a while to strengthen your opinion and maybe you wont regret any decision you make. it also depends on what kinda features you are looking for, but the LS has more aftermarket options than the ES.

LS all the way baby! I bought my '95 LS in Jan/99 with 84k. Ive had it three years+ now still running like brand new, my next purchase will be the LS430 (used). Used can be 10k. As soon as the car leaves the lot the value drops, but the quality doesn't. The ES is a great car, but I think Lexus needs to take it off of the Camry platform and get rid of the front wheel drive. My opinion, a true Luxury/High class car should be a rear-wheel drive. (Please ES drivers NO OFFENSE!)

okay, okay...did it qualify as a dumb question???
Anyways I will keep looking. I still can't find any 430's with reasonable milage under 48K. If any of you happen to hear of one let me know (especially in SoCal- LS430's are in short supple here in the desert). A person who I consider in to be "in-the-know" say I should be able to find one low 40's.
BTW, the ES300 was $31,900 (with dealer promising a further discount) with extra wood, HID, trunk mat, net and rain sensing wipers, so I was thinking about 35K out the door.
