Default Hollow 3rd Cat.

I have a hollow 3rd catalytic converter. Would it make a difference if i went with a universal cat or oem? I'm getting it replaced soon, because my performance is suffering.

I believe that is a resonator unless it's a Cali car..

I don't see how a hollow cat or resonator would hurt performance. If anything it would help a little. I understand that unlike a diesel engine, gas engines do need some back pressure, however, we don't need 2 cats, 3 resonators, and 2 muffler's worth of backpressure......

the BOLD part of that is a total fallacy, gas engines do not need ANY backpressure to function properly. read up mate.

Hollowed cats in particular do NOT help performance, indeed they do HURT performance by creating a stagnation point in the exhaust, mucking up both exhaust flow and exhaust velocity. again, read up.

that being said, the 1LS center resonator or cat (they made models with both) can be deleted but doing so requires a less ghetto-rigged approach. A singe long-merged y-pipe for example would give you an ever so slightly better sound as well as possibly (minutely) increase performance. not to mention the fact that even high quality burns stainless y-pipes are less than most all bolt-in replacements for either of those parts....

I might consider the y-pipe. It sounds cheaper too.
