Default Has anyone had good luck with a used AC compressor?

I am looking to get a used AC compressor just to get through the short term, Has anyone had reasonable good luck with it. I will be DIY the whole process and will be filling the system with ES12A.

I've put an A/C compressor from a 1991 LS400 into a 1995 LS400 - and charged the system up at home, without properly evacuating the system and getting moisture out.
It's been working fine for the past year and a half.

I say do it right, the time you take to do this and if the compressor goes south, the drill begins again.

An aside, is the system fully compatible with the ES12A? This propane based refrigerant I'm not familiar with. Having it in proximity to heat should a leak strong enough occur...brrrr.

While on the subject my compressor slightly growls when on sounds like a power steering pump low on fluid but not as loud it works great and has made this noise since I bought the car almost 2 years ago it's an r12 that's been converted to 134 is this normal any one else have this issue?
