Default New guy from florida looking to get a LS400 soon

Hey there, I have been lurking this forum for a couple days now just going through the "post recent pics of your car" thread and have gone through probably 80 pages, lol.

I am currently driving a 2004 Infiniti G35 coupe but I have decided to downsize and save some money for when I leave the country for my study abroad in college. I've had many cars over the years but have never done the vip look. I've had the 240sx, jetta, civic hatch (god i hated that car), jeep wrangler lifted and safari'd out, and now the nice G35.

I was weighing a couple cars including the ls400, acura legend, and older mercedes but decided the parts are too expensive for the mercedes and the acura legend has a common overheating issue that blows the headgaskets. I am mechanically inclined, however I don't feel like having to fix a car often.

I am about 95% set on getting a first gen ls400 (don't know you guy's lingo, new to the whole lexus world) What I am hoping to find is a ls that someone is willing to trade+cash for my g35, but if that doesn't happen, no worries, I am selling the infiniti outright as well.

What I would like to know though is what to look for when I am looking at the ls400s. Common issues, noises to listen for, ect.

Also, I am planning on putting some rims on it, I really like the eurolines but my main liking is just the huge chrome lip. If there is a list of like "vip style rims" I'd love to see it, lol. Anyways I'm done writing my novel, hope to learn a lot here.

Welcome to CLFL. Power Steering pump leaking/failure is a common problem. The stock brakes arent the best so definitely test them out. Do not "power flush" the transmission when changing transmission fluid. The throttle body should be cleaned every 100,000 miles. There isnt many problems with the 1UZ. The trac light, has something to do with speed sensors. Im not sure of anymore problems. OH, and avoid the air suspension model. Where in FL are you?

And this would be my inspiration. This is what I am wanting final product. I'd give credit to the car owner but I can't remember what his screen name was..

Did that S13 have a KA24 or did you swap it out with a SR20det? I wanna buy a cheap project S14 and put a RB25 in it with a mean turbo.

Ive owned 2 of what your looking at..

currently own a 1993 LS400 (got from family)
just sold my 1994 Acura Legend GS (bought from seller)

personally, if you can find the legend (preferably a GS) in good condition with little work needed, i'd go for it.

mine needed a new power steering rack, rotors, breaks, trans slipped sometimes, just ended up costing more than the worth. if it was in better cond. i def wouldve kept it. the 3.2 v6 had good power. a lot quicker than my 93 ls400.

def better on gas:
legend - about 26mpg v6
LS - prbly bout 20-21 v8

interior was basically the same, liked the BOSE sound system a lil more in the legend. legend also had a 6 disc. non-working cassette in my LS

the lexus though drives a lot nicer than the legend did (expected it with the probs i already listed above).

another positive about the LS is the resale..
the kbb on my GS and LS (selling privately/trade - in)
GS- about 2400-2500 / 1900?
LS- 4000 / 3000

pic of my GS, my LS isn't anything special
