Rockauto has the fan clutch for $45. I've never seen anyone rebuild a fan clutch before. Pretty interesting, I've always wondered what was in there.

I might try to rebuild my fan clutch - I bought a new one from Autozone for $40, and it works ok but it keeps the fan speed super high for too long, like a minute at a time, whereas my 99 LS quietens down on a few seconds. The original one was about twice the size of the autozone one.

Is the fan supposed to spin all the time as long as engine is on?
What's the sign for a bad fan clutch?

Fan will spin all the time, the difference is the speed. When the engine get hot it will spin at high speed compare to when the engine is cold.

Dashan - fan clutch should spin easily with your hand when cold, with the engine off of course. It shouldn't spin round on its own when you push it though.

When your car sounds like a propeller plane when driving, its time for a new one.
