PS Leak
(Moving topic from Dashan's TB thread)
96 250K original ps pump.
Is this a common place for the PS pump to leak? Does seem to be completely covered in black gunge. Any tips welcomed.

Oh yeah, that's a big leak. Like I said in the other thread, both of mine leaked there. I've also seen other members' pumps leak from that spot. There's an O-ring in there. I never had mine apart so Idk if you need to take out the bolt and valve from other side first, if you do don't lose the spring in there. But, you got the manual so you're all set. I also don't know if you can buy just that O-ring or if you gotta get the whole rebuild kit. Ya might as well do it now while you still have everything off and you can get in there. What the hell, you're not driving it anyway.

If you don't replace your powersteering pump ASAP it will drip down and fry your alternator like dashan just alluded to. Also when you get it replaced YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE HOSES AS WELL. Trust me. It's not worth it to do it twice.

From what I understand. This is common for the 1st gen LS's power steering pump to leak. I had the same problem. Got mine replaced at a dealership. To no prevail it started leaking again. still leaks a lil to this day.
