Greetings,

The water pump I got from Amazon in the timing belt kit contains a gasket number 16341-50010 as shown in the pic. Says its the water outlet gasket on the bag.

Did they send me the wrong gasket or something? If it's for the top of the pump, do you guys just use permatex or something or a proper (rectangular) gasket?

Just did a TB/WP change for my friends LS400. Definitely the wrong gasket. We got a rectangular one and use high temp rtv on both sides plus the spout. Holds really good.

Yeah, that sure looks wrong to me. You can get one from Autozone or whatever parts store. High temp sealant and gasket is a good idea. Mine also had the gasket for the pump itself. (I think some later models don't) Either way, some people will say use gasket and sealer, some say just sealer, and some say just gasket. Pretty much personal preference. If you do use sealer, don't use too much. It spreads, comes loose, goes into the coolant, and causes more problems with clogs.

That gasket part number comes back as a front coolant bridge gasket for a 1994-1997 LS400

Yup. I usually take a grander at the thickness and quality of the gasket. The one that came with the water pump has a pencil thin rubber edge. I wasn't going to leave it to chance that it would screw up so I applied RTV to both sides before slapping it on.

Definitely dont use too much. On my old LS400, I found a wad of old RTV clogged in the banjo bolt on top passenger side of my radiator. If you guys haven't checked this yet, be sure to asap. Be careful has two copper washers, one on either side of the bolt when you unscrew. The inner washer falls easily.
