I have a 96 LS400 and for some time now about a month or so everytime I press the brakes it makes this weird like cracking noise and also if I make a sudden stop it makes like a thump noise . what might it be?

most likely front strut rod bushings. search for the rest.

^^ Also check the tierods and ball joints. One thing you should have mentioned was front or back. Just b/c it happens when ya hit the brakes, doesn't mean it's the brakes. I just started a thread yesterday about a brake noise, (rear) if you search there is alot of threads with all kinds of symptoms and repairs, ya might find yours.
