Question Weird AC and engine stall problem

Dear experts

I have a Lexus LS400 1994.

I bought this car early last autumn, and sometimes the engine would stall and all indicators in the instrument panel would be lit up. The engine would fire right up again after this.
Then this phenomena went away during winter just to reappear this spring.

Thinking about this I have found out that it is only when the AC is to deliver cold air (20 degrees Celsius or less) the engine will stall. When the AC is off or delivering hot air the car is rock solid.

The AC as such works flawlessly and delivers cold air as it should.

I took this problem to my local Lexus dealer who concluded that the AC compressor is defect and needs to be replaced. That's about $1100

Anyone with another take on this other than replacing what seems to be e perfectly working AC compressor.

Thanks
