Default 460 swap

Has anyone installed or know of any isntallations of the 460 engine and trans in a 1994 LS400?
Does anyone know of a mechanic or a shop in So. Calif who has experience with engine/tranny swaps in Lexus cars?

Welcome.

All a matter of money and time. I've pondered this as well but our LS isn't that level a project car so it remains an amusing thought. Call some shops, measure up and see what some of the shops say what will need to be fabbed.

That's not very far off, unfortunately. The list price of a complete motor from Lexus, I know you won't buy it from them, but just for our sake, it's $23,000, which doesn't include any of the harness, modules, exhaust, etc. On top of that, the book time for removing a 4.6 from an LS460 is 30 hours. I would be willing to bet that the time would almost double considering your puting a engine in a vehicle that was never deisgned for it. Good luck.

The 4.6 is a lousy motor to go through the effort of putting into your car anyway. It's flimsy and cheap. The best motor is your 1UZ-FE - you just need to wake it up with forced induction.

for the money you would spend on the 4.6 you could have a fully built 1uz with forced induction and 500hp+ and some cash left over for other goodies. It would be a fun idea if you had a fab shop at your own disposal and could do all the work your self and found a 4.6 for real cheap, like less than $2000. Because even after that your still going to be looking at 5k+ to get it running....

Don't know much about the 4.6L but how is it "flimsy and cheap"?

failing camshafts (tundra bored-out model), failing valvetrain (LS, GS460), very thin rods, open-deck block design. i don't think it even has a 6-bolt main like its UZ predecessor.

Complete waste of time.

Just give your 1UZ an overhaul and supercharge.
