Default 99 LS400 Valve Cover Gaskets

Hello. I have a 99 LS400 with 145k miles.

Saw oil leak on and around valve cover gaskets. Had to add 1/2 quart engine oil (been 2k miles since oil change).

beside 2 gaskets and 8 spark plug tubes, what else I need to purchase?

anyone have part numbers for them I can use?

Thanks.

I can't see anything regarding the "spark plug tubes" even on the full rebuilt parts list.
The valve cover gaskets are
Gasket Cylinder head Cover 11213-50030
Gasket Cylinder head Cover no.2 11214-50010
Both priced at $29.80

For my '91, part # 11193-15010 is for the "spark plug tube gaskets", which is probably what you mean.
There are also # 90210-07001 Valve Cover Washers (16 of them - one for each screw).
Again, these are for my '91, your year's parts may be different.

If you're buying a lot of gaskets like this, it is usually a lot cheaper to buy an aftermarket kit that includes all of the above. Gaskets are one thing that I would trust aftermarket parts to do well.

Whatever you do, be sure to torque the valve covers carefully.

did you try retorquing the valve cover nut bolts? I retighten mine and it works. Try that first and see if it work depending how bad your leak, if it really bad...move forward replacing them. The driver side is a lot easier to get to than the passenger side gasket ( a little more involve) but not too difficult.

When i did the job on my 90, i replaced the valve cover gaskets, 8 sparkplug tubes rings, washers, what i didn't do was to re-seal the half moon on the head by the firewall.

Check rockauto.com for the valve cover gasket. Their sets include the 8 spark plug tubes and the 16 grommets. They have a Beck/Arnley kit for $47 or a Fel-pro for $37, + shipping of course.

May as well get a PCV valve too, and a throttle body gasket, because it will have to come off. Depending on the state of the vacuum lines, a few of those may need replacing as well. And don't forget the Form In Place Gasket for around the camshaft bearings.

i will stay away from fel-pro, i used them before they start sipping oil on the spark plug tube gasket(not tight enough like OEM). For 99 OEM spark plug tube gasket is part# 11193-70010(you need 8), left valve cover gasket part# 11214-50011, right is part#11213-50030 and the washer 90210-07001(you need 16) i will also get the FIPG part# 00295-00103 for the half moon thing in the back of the head(they are 4 half moon, take them out, remove the old FIPG, then apply a new one).
The vacuum lines will be another problem because at this time they a hard as a rock. you will know this after the work, also the ignition coil harness clips will break easy.

Im not scared of maintenance by any means but ppl on the internet make me want to take my car to a shop

It's more of a "might as well" thing. I suggest to do the spark plug tubes b/c when I did my valve cover gaskets, about 15K miles ago, I didn't do my tubes. They were fine then but now they're leaking. If I did them then, I wouldn't need to take the covers back off now. The gaskets aren't too hard to change, this tutorial will help you out; http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/engine/valvecover.html
