having recently gone through the same issue with my obd1 '94 I would recommend a lot of reading on this website, and some routine cleanup items like seafoam, throttle body cleaning, and ignition system examination. check out my thread "new owner here with rough idle". Pull your spark plugs and see if any of them look different than the others. Also consider fuel supply issues like fuel filter, fuel pump ecu, or fuel pump. Then exam for vacuum leaks and egr pipe leak. Just a few things to consider. good luck!

I would, like said before, get a timing light and check that timing. It sure sounds like it's off. You sure as hell don't want the belt to snap. It also sounds like you have an exhaust leak which could be the EGR pipe from where the sound is coming from.
