one of mine is almost 170k without trouble... so why worry about when it "might" happen, if it happens, fix it, and go on. cars are like people, they have problems at different times.... nothing is set in stone.

Never =P

Had a 98 with 165K, no failure.

Have a 2003 LS430 with 200K on the dot, the alternator is still running strong.

In highway driving, they generally last 150,000 - 250,000 miles. Aftermarket, half as long.

I took mine off at 250,000 miles I didn't want to be left stranded and the bearings were still in good shape..

there's one problem my LS has had and it's the alternator
i've had about 3 different alternators so far.. all rebuilt.. if there's any advice i can give you, it's to buy a brand new alternator and have it put in.. save yourself all the trouble i had to go through.. apparently no one in this area can rebuild an alternator right
and as others have said.. don't worry about it until it actually dies on you
