Any service differences from 96 to 99?

Default Any service differences from 96 to 99?

Greetings!

I just bought myself a 99 LS with 84K, and just want to know if there are any differences in capacities or oil types?

Is it Toy T-IV ATF?
5.4L 5W/30?
Mobil 1 gear oil?
Toy long life red antifreeze?
Steering fluid = ATF?
Timing belt @ 60K or 90K?

Anything else I should be aware of?

Pretty much same, TB at 90K miles.

Speaking of the PS, wish Mobil would release a CA approved M1 fluid. The CA EPA is brutal. I'm going to have to resort to an out of state buy to get some.

Is the timing belt for this year (99) 90K then? Or is it officially 60K which you are suggesting can wait till 90?

90K is recomended for the T-belt for your 99 and the 96. It's part of the 90k mile service. The older models (94 and down) are recomended at 60K. The belts are made stronger for the newer models. I've heard of belts lasting almost 200K, but anyone who knowingly pushes their belt that long (in a 95 and up) doesn't have too much brains. 95 and up have interference engines.

Is age an issue? Its the original belt, which makes it 12 years old. I guess I better change it soon.

I wouldn't chance it too far on an interference engine. It wont last forever. It's a procautionary issue to do it soon, before it breaks and then ya need a new engine. Age an issue? What else has failed or gone wrong with your 12 yr old car?

Well I only had it a month. But I found the old owner and called them, and they said nothing ever went wrong, as expected.

yes age makes a difference, like every other rubber on your car, they start to deteriorate after the years go by. i would recommend doing the timing belt sooner then later. always good to do it right when you buy the car to just get the thought of it snapping/skipping out of your head from the get go.
