Default Im stumped!!!! Car wont start

I have a 1996 Lexus LS400, I just bought the car, drove it once, it had a weird noise from the front of the engine. Owner said it was the water pump, so I went and picked up a water pump, timing belt, front main seal, some plugs and a few other things. I put it all together and now the car wont start.... I have injector pulse, I have fuel, I have spark, the motor is in time, however it still wont start, it will turn over for hours and wont start. I sprayed some starter fluid in the throttle body and tried to start it, still nothing.

The car has an after market alarm, so I'm wondering if it is the immobilizer?

LOL if this is the same issue I had when I did my starter job.....you may kick yourself in the face.

Have you checked your ignitor? When I was putting my engine back together from a starter install, the plug got yanked; but you can't really see the plug since its at the back of the ignitor. My car would crank over FOREVER but not start.

Noticed the ignitor connector was loose. Plugged it in. Car started like a champ.

*fingers crossed for ya!

if you have spark and fuel the alarm isn't the cause. where did you check for spark?

Both igniters are plugged in, even tried reversing them and it still doesn't want to start. It will crank for hours and it sounds so promising, like it wants to start but wont. I even tried starter fluid and nothing!

You say you have spark and fuel. Either the fuel is bad - perhaps it was marginal when you started working on the car and it has gotten worse due to phase separation between the gasoline and ethanol - or, and more likely, your timing is off because you made an error when you installed the timing belt.

Car ran when I bought it, it ran really well actually. I took it home did the timing belt/water pump, I just re checked my timing again, motor is still in time. I'm still getting spark, and I added 4 gallons of 93 today, still getting fuel.. I have no damn idea as to what it may be.

I already checked the EFI fuse, its good, I checked it with a test light. I haven't checked the ignition one yet, I'll be sure to do that tomorrow morning.

I don't know what CEL is, care to explain?

I think if the car was running before the timing belt swap the fuel is still ok as long as we are talking months or less of downtime. Pull a couple plugs and see how they look. If they are fairly dry or just a bit oily looking after cranking then sounds like fuel is not getting there. Does it smell like gas when you remove the plugs or crank for a sec or two without a plug installed?

I'm getting a gas like smell when I crank it. The plugs are brand new.

if they aren't wet with gas after cranking for 5 sec then I really don't think gas is getting there
