Default 4.7 Tundura and 4.0 LS400

How similar is the 4.7 Tundura engine vs. 4.0 LS400 (1UZ-FE). Would the 4.7 short block fit into the 4.0 heads?

I think in the current turbo mag, they have a drag celica with such a setup.

At one time I was thinking the same thing. I believe the 4.7 (actually 4.66 liter) uses an iron block with 2 bolt main caps. The 4.0 (3.96) uses an alloy block with 6 bolt main caps and a forged crankshaft. Stroke on motors is 84mm and 82.5mm respectively. Bore is 94mm and 87.5mm respectively. I have inquired with Golden Eagle Manufacturing on the feasibility of resleeving a 1FE-UZ block to accept the 94mm piston (or possibly larger). Bigger bores allow larger valves and increase compression. A 94mm piston with the stock 82.5mm crankshaft yields a 4.577 liter engine. This may be THE best way to get more cubes

BTW, to get substancially more HP you would need much better exhaust manifolds/system and a better flowing intake track. These items alone on an otherwise stock 4.0 would make more peak power than a 4.7 liter using stock flowing parts. Since you will need the parts anyway... I would start there before scrapping a solid engine in search of more power! A good set of headers is going to be manditory on a none boosted engine. Read through the technical articles at www.burnsstainless.com for insight on this subject.

The car currently running the GS400 heads on the tundra 4.7L engine was developed with help from TRD and it is a race engine wouldn't suggest trying that with your street engine.

The car running that engine is the Scranton Brothers Turbonetics Celica GT. It runs a Tundra V8 ( with GS400 heads that have been warms over ) bored out to 5.3L. The Celica Runs 2 Turbonetic Y2k Turbos. The Celica also runs custom rods and pistons. It is the fastest import currently, it is the first to run over 200MPH ( 202MPH is the record it set ) and a low ET of 7.020secs. At the initial testing of the engine at 26 pounds of boost it creat in excess of 1600HP and that was the low boost setting!

I have several videos i have taken at various import drag meets of it if anyone is interested. it is amazing to watch, truly amazing.

Also HKS also has a Supra running a similar setup except built by HKS themselves. The car has run 6.81s@197MPH in testing, it is reported to be making about 2000HP but was tuned down (1500HP) during test at which time it ran the 6.81. I cant wait to see it on the maximum HP setting. The quicker time indicates that the chassis is better because 1600HP is more than enough to run under 7 seconds.

very exciting time in import drag racing.

TRD a lot of mods to the engine to make it withstand that kind of HP, and when i saw a lot of HP i mean a lot in excess of 1600HP ( wich could mean 1800-2000HP in the case of the HKS Supra ). If anyone is willing to host the videos i will be more than happy to upload them. It is truly amazing to watch and the sound that is makes is just awesome, it demands respect.

Unfortunatley they are banning V8 engines in NIRA next year so the Scranton Brothers will be back with a V6 engine, i can't wait to see what they can do with that.

Take care.
