1991 LS 400, help!
Hi,
I am a new memeber of this wonderful club. Since there are so many knowledgable members here, I would be glad to get as many responses as possible. Well, here is the deal, I'm considering a 1991 LS 400. It is a one owner car and has 160000 miles on it However the car has been beautifully maintained (oil changes, service, tune ups, etc). The exterior looks very good and the interior is even better. The original owner has gotten the car new set of tires, and changed the brake rotors. After checking the car out, my mechanic says the car is in good shape. The only thing that holds me back from purchasing this car is the 160000 miles on the car. However, I've been hearing that the LS 400's run forever. What do you think? Is it going to last me a while?
Thank you.

They had this for sale were I bought my 94 ls 400. I think they wanted 5K and car looked awsome.

I have a 91 also , they do run to many miles but everything
has a finite life span. Mine had to have a rear main seal put in
at 100K , a little early I heard but I don't know how well the car was maintained prior to me owning it.
Of course the T-BELT should have been changed at least once by 160K. And the Tranny shoudl be inpected for replaceement of fluids and filters at reg intervals.
Front control arms are another problem with the upper bushings rattling over rough roads and they run $300 each side , parts alone.

I have a 91 ls400 with 204,000 miles.
Fixed so far and associated price;
Power steering pump rebuilt ~ 300
A/C compressor rebuilt ~ 450
(both were working so-so, no need to completely replace, just have rebuilt)
shocks replaced ~500 (rear end sagging - car, not driver)
antenna mast ~ 100 (could have let it go)
preventive;
Transmission flush, fuel filter replaced, coolant flush (common stuff)
Before I bought it the timing belt, water pump, and alternator had been replaced.
Other than that, the car is quiet, powerful, and still looks great.
I recommend this car over Mercedes and BMW anyday.
Feel free to pm or e-mail if you have questions.

hey u live in MD!
i live really close to the bridge on the other side.
well i have just hit 205,000 and im still going.
not any major problems except i had to change the alternator because of a power sterring leek driped on to it and really messed it up.
the ls400 is built like a tank.
