Has anyone have any sudden acceleration problems in their 98 2000 ls400? I'm scared from rumors of other ls and lexus on the report.

sudden acceleration is great. people put a lot of power into their cars to try and get sudden acceleration.

perhaps unintended acceleration is what you're thinking of?

those reports are all frauds. the recent stories about the toyota and lexus cars were all due to the floor mat being stuck on the accelerator pedal. the ones that claimed that they couldnt stop and god saved them were all BS and have admitted to lying.

Driver's need to learn what pedal is gas and brake.

That's the same thing I said when it first started happening. I always knew it was nothing electronic, just the movement of the heavy mat on the gas pedal and total pandemonium.

Once owned an '07 Tundra 5.7l with cheap aftermarket floor mats, one day in heavy traffic I found a hole and punched it and the accelerator was stuck, immediately got on the brake and within a few seconds I was able to get my toe under the gas pedal and pop it back. Even that 5.7l under full throttle was under control under full brake, and if I had gotten too close to the vehicle in front of me I was ready to drop it to neutral. Maybe all the 'sudden acceleration' threads on Toyota boards is why I reacted so fast. If it's a concern just make sure you have mats that secure with the factory hooks and know what to do in that situation. I haven't yet read anything to make me believe there's any design flaw or manufacturing defect at work here.

the ginormous brakes on the 07+ tundra may have helped

Yup, if you ever have need for a big truck that's the best reason to get a Tundra. Maybe it's different for some passenger cars but I felt like I could have brought that truck to a complete stop with the throttle wide open, as soon as I got on the brakes I was scrubbing speed. I think in a similar situation the LS400 would perform as well, at least keep your speed under control long enought to either free the gas pedal, drop it in neutral, or shut off the car with the key.

Sudden acceleration problem 98/2000 ls.....
after driving several different LS's, 97 and older, when I tried out a 98, I could not take off without Sudden acceleration. but my wife could????? so I bought her a 99. and she had no problem, and I learned how to drive it without the sudden jerk too. so I bought me one also. now I have no sudden acceleration problems.... but my son in law cannot drive it without the jerking (hehehe) he is a nissan altima driver...

My 2000 LS400 had the exact opposite problem...I'd punch the gas and the damn thing just sat there. Drove me nuts.

that's due to you and your son not being used to the drive-by-wire that was introduced in the 98+ cars. takes practice to get away smoothly
