If thats what is you better replace it very soon. Depending on the year of the car you could very well have an interferance engine. If thats the case and the bearing goes out look for a $2K job to repair it.

Glad to know it's all good now, The LS400 seems to be making a funny chirp noise and sounds like a rattly diesel engine. I'm betting it's the Serpentine Tensioner that's making all the noise and would like to replace it. Do you have to remove the top timing belt cover to get it out?

Cheers.

Yes, as you can see in this, #15 http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/engine/timingbelt.html you can see the lips on top of the tensioner where the T-belt cover sits on top of it. Do NOT try to just bend it out of the way. It needs to sit on tightly so dirt doesn't get into the T-belt. This tutorial will help with whatever you need to take out, you don't need to do every step though.

Default Part numbers

Thanks for that information mate, Would you happen to know any part numbers for Gates, Hayden, Dayco etc? It's actually for a '89 Celsior but should be the same as a 90-94 LS400. Pretty sure the toyo/lexus part number is 16620 50020

Oh yeah and did they change over to a newer style of tensioner or fix the fitment issue with some aftermarket serp tensioner's not fitting with the timing belt cover?

Thanks again.

The McMaster site has all the dimensions you would need, for example

http://www.mcmaster.com/#5972k44/=c93qqb

http://www.mcmaster.com/#5972k86/=c93rvh

Just look up the same size bearing and make sure its sealed on both sides.

I'm thinking about tackling the timing belt, water pump replacement on my LX 470. I'm not a pro but I am not an amateur either. I have all the tools. Bad idea?

Should be fine but why don't you post it in the LX470 forum where they might have some tip/tricks to make it easier.
