Did you see where he was offered 20k for it? Would need some serious updating.

Jeez ... not another thread about this car.

This car has been "for sale" for years -- guess the seller still can't find a sucker. And why would anyone be surprised that Gates had an LS and why would anyone pay a ridiculous price to own it? There used to be an early 90's video showing Gates being interviewed (I think by "60 minutes") while driving it floating around the Internet.

Sucker?? It's like any other car that becomes a collector. Look at Barret-Jackson, some of those cars are auctioned for an outrageous amount. But, anything is worth whatever someone wants to pay for it. I wouldn't pay 20 G's for that but I guess there's one guy that will. Plus, the money is going to charity which ALWAYS jacks up the price. As for Gates owning a Lexus, I'd be surprised if he didn't own one, along with 50 other high priced vehicles. He's not gonna drive a 70s Pinto.

That's my point -- nobody has wanted to pay $20K for a car that was not at all rare (40,000+ sold in the U.S. alone for the 1990 model year including one to me), not in particularly good condition, and not owned by someone famous in the celebrity way people seem to go ga-ga over.

But maybe if the car had been owned by Elvis ... or maybe Elvis could still buy it and give the car more value! Elvis, where are you?

I remember watching some mid-90s computer documentary show and actually did see Bill Gates drive this car around, park it, and get out of it.

Side note, Warren Buffet reportedly owned an MX83 Cressida too.

I think I read Warren Buffet's 2001 Lincoln Town Car went for $73,000 on eBay.

... which included a private 45 minute visit with one of the wealthiest men in the world: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17139774...s-us_business/ .... might have been a good deal for a little investment advice!

For some reason I find it hard to believe he put roughly 80k miles on it with all the other cars that he owned. Still someone is a sucker if they pay more than $5k for it.
