I only get that much when I take a road trip with mostly freeway driving. On an average work week 300-400 miles per tank.

I routinely top 500 miles on a tank of gas on long trips when the weather conditions are right. Usually average between 27.1 and 27.3 mpg on a tankful in low wind conditions and have exceeded 30 mpg for a tankful with a strong tail wind on a Tulsa to Kansas City run. I've tracked in log books almost every gallon of fuel I've put in cars over about 45 years.

I have not taken a trip that is as long as a tankful, but I get 25-27 with AC on, 27 to nearly 30 without AC..... good enough to keep me in a LS...

For total HWY driving, of course this is on a 91 with the couple actual engine mods, I get 475 or so.

Wish mine would do that but I can't complain with what ours does. The usual slugging in So. Cal I do makes getting good MPG a dream.

I can also get around 500 just on road trips. Also I run 87 octane only. Not sure if it would be better or worse with 93?

How long have you been running 87, do you notice any difference in mileage, do you get engine knock on heavy acceleration? There are many debates about the grades, everyone has a good point. So how do you choose?

I've gotten 550 miles before.. I could have gone quite a bit further but I didn't want to risk running out of gas without a station nearby since it wasn't an area I was familiar with.

Wish I had a pic, the only one I have is of 285miles being traveled on just over half a tank. Considering that I still have a good 40+ miles after the needle hits the E, I am confident I could hit 600.



30MPG is not a problem when the A/C is off.. It really makes me laugh at these car commercials touting 30-something MPG from cars that weigh 500-1000lbs less with little 1.8L 4 cylinder engines.

I attribute alot of this to the extremely low drag coefficient that the LS has. It might seem strange(or just impossible) at first glance, but the 98-00 LS400 does have a lower drag coefficient than cars such as the Nissan 370Z, Corvette C6 Z06 and McLaren F1.

Well the biggest gain I saw was after I did my Intake add on. But I have also done a full exhaust, which on a 91 ment I got rid of the third CAT. We don't have emissions tests here anymore unless you buy a used car, but it would still pass.

Also, always use premium grade, and every 6 months or so I use a can of BG44k and also do a seafoam run.
