poor mpg

poor mpg
after taking a 226 mile trip i found out i was only getting 18.33333...... mpg and to me that seems to be poor for it being a small v8. ive seen a 7.0 liter z06 get 24 mpg.
what could cause it to have such poor gas mileage.
btw its a 90 ls400

I have a 90, I would loveeeee to get 18.3mpg, hahaha
