Default Suspension Question - Coilovers vs. shock/springs

Looking to get suspension for my 99 LS, hoping I can get some input on what I should do or consider.

I am going to need to replace my struts/shocks regardless on which route I go with.

I am looking to lower about 1.5 inches, but would love to retain the stock ride quality.

Should I do with a spring and shock combo or consider coilovers?

If coilovers, which brand?

I was thinking Tanabe springs, with tokico shocks.

With megan EZ coilovers at ~650 shipped its really hard to make an argument for lowering springs/shocks.

Because, with coils, you can drop it that 1.5 inches that you desire, and if you ever want more, you can have it!

It would be a shame to get a nice spring/shock setup and then not be happy with that drop, or not be happy with the ride. Where with the coilovers, you can adjust your ride height, your dampening (make it harder/softer).

But hey, I could just be trying to live my dream through you

I agree, the megan EZ coilover makes it pretty dumb not to get coilovers for the price they are listed at. And I'm sure the vendors on this forum can get it for you for a good amount cheaper than msrp

My local tire shop told me my struts were leaking and were going to go soon...

They told me that I needed new struts, that they would make me a deal I couldn't refuse...

For four new whatever brand struts (his "deal" was bringing them from 149.99 a piece to 129.99) and installation was almost NINE...HUNDRED...DOLLARS...

Oh yeah, and 55 dollars per shock to install. Because their labor rate wasn't already enough.

Crazy. The shops I'd called in the past are averaging out to $50 a corner and it is a 2 hour or less job.

I know what's available and the price differences.

What I am looking for are the best of both worlds. I want comfort and also want to be lowered. I do not desire to have the car slammed, but I do want it lowered. I don't want a bumpy ride and that's what I am trying to avoid.

Yes, Megan EZ seems to be the way to go, but let's hear from someone that has them. How do they ride?

Also, anyone currently running H&R and Tanabe right now? Post some pictures.
