Pulling the alt isn't too hard. IIRC there is some PS lines ya have to unbolt from the bottom of the oil pan just to give ya more room to get it out. It'll also give you more room to get the ACV off the PS pump. Or, if you're gonna pull the PS pump out to change the ACV then the alt can come out through the top. I've had both of mine out but that was when I did the T-belt, much easier.

Im not to take the whole ps out itself just going to unscrew the acv from the bottom, so you saying i got to take off the ps lines to get the alt off??

I'm pretty sure I moved them to get my alt out. There's 2 bolts on a bracket that come out so you can move the lines out of the way. They don't have to be completely disconnected. You'll notice them when ya go to take the alt out. Also, on mine, I unplugged the wires after I got the alt loose and hanging. It's easier then b/c you can spin it and see the wires better.

It will be done from below. Take off serpentine belt. Remove one nut from top. get under car. Remove round plastic wire plug from alternator. Remove hold downs for AC pipes. Remove other bolt from bottom. Twist the whole alternator so that you can unscrew the second wire. Carefully manuver out the alternator. Its a tight squeeze. Kinda like your car having a baby....

Question

Mine is shot on my 90 LS.
I've changed the alternator on my 2nd GS 300 which is reletively simple, but the LS seems more difficult to get out as the engine is more compact.

Damn, you took it out from the top? I never heard of anyone here doing it that way, including me. Figured you would get it from the bottom, seeing how all the answers you received said that. (And it would have been easier) Oh well, it worked for ya. Did you take care of the ACV yet?

a question regarding this, if a person is installing a higher output alt say 130 or 145 will we not need to change the fusible link (120a), how hard is that to do?
