problems starting car
hey everyone, just ran into a problem with my car dying and not being able to start and hoping you guys could point me in the right direction as to what the problem could be.
i've got a 96 ls4 with about 240k on the clock and my CEL has been on the last few days but i didn't think too much of it. well, as i was going to work in stop and go traffic on the fwy, i noticed my car suddenly wouldnt go anywhere whenever i put my foot on the throttle, so i just floored it and it would then downshift into 1st and get moving about 2-3 seconds after. then shortly after, my car wouldnt go past ~1500 rpm but i noticed everytime i let my foot off throttle the car would move forward a little bit, so i kept doing that until i got myself off the fwy. i pulled over the the side and stopped, at which point my car was idling at about 200rpm and idling really rough so i turned the car off to let it cool down for about 5 min and then i started it again and it would turn over, but still idle pretty rough. and then the rpms kept bouncing from ~1500-200rpm and then shut off by itself. next attempt to start my car, it would crank, but not turn over. any ideas guys?

well as of right now the car is parked about 35 miles away from my home, so the next time i would be able to even make it out that way to pick it up and tow it would be on monday. but i just wanted to find out what the problem could possibly be so i could prepare myself moneywise for repairs

It could be many different things but to me it sounds like ignition related. It would be nice if you can get the codes read but if it doesn't run then you can't bring it anywhere. Basic inspection just check for spark and fuel, then you know which way to go from there. I would check the coils to see if they are in spec.

just got my car towed over to my friend's house. he checked it out and identified the fuel pump as the problem. so he helped me change out my fuel pump and fuel filter. runs like a champ again!
