I have a similar experience with a 1998 LS. Only when engine is cold. The transmission is also sluggish during this time of warm-up, as if not really ready to go yet. After 2 or 3 minutes all is well. Obviously I don't have an answer for you.

Did you find the problem? My 98 is vibrating the most at 45 mph first thing in morning. Sounds like tires but, I can feel it in netural when I race engine a little.

Vibration on 98 LS400
Not sure what I can tell you? I have taken to dealer and an independent.
They jump right to the mounts and say lets replace those first for $550.
This seems to be related to if the car is hot or cold and maybe the temperature. I drove it tonight and it was 74 degrees and the car was still ly warm from my drive home. Dove to the local hamberger joint and it drove without problem.
I don't get vibration in the shifter. Seems to be around engine) I thought the car was just running rough (when I accelerate to 2000 rpm). It again, is worst in the morning for the first 3 miles.
With it doing this in park, I guess I can eliminate tires and trans.
Anybody have a guess? I don't want to just spend 100s of dollars to guess.
Thanks for your help
PS: Nobody has checked the engine for analysis.

97k miles is LOW for engine mount problems. Also, if they were bad, it wouldn't stop once the car got warmed up.
Check the harmonic balancer and make sure your MAF sensor is good as well as the throttle body system.
