Default Where to buy extra keys for LS400

I have found a super clean '98 LS400 for my new daily driver. Only problem is...it has one key. I would like to know if you have found any other sources to buy Lexus keys other than a Lexus dealer.

thx

yes, you can buy them off ebay, but they have to be cut & programed by a dealer.

I bought my keys from eBay, had them cut at one of the few lock places near my house that have the right machines for $10/key, and programmed it myself (since i have a 99).

'95s dont have immobilizers, so dont need to have that programmed, just the alarm remote.

Dealer charged me $15 to cut a transponder key, the non-transponder was no charge. The key you have is a master right? You won't be able to program any other keys if it is a valet cut key.

I paid $167 to Sewell Lexus to have them send me a master already cut for the car. Took me 5 minutes to program it. I don't have time to chase down a maybe solution.

The one key you already have has to be a master for any of this to work, as RA40 pointed out.

^ great info schnitz!

If i bought this master key, essentially all I'd need to do is get it cut and follow the instructions above for programming and I'm set right?

ACE hardware now makes a lot of keys for different cars. Check them. Half the price.

Default Re: 1997 LS 400 keys

First I'd like to thank everyone for responding to my questions in a very helpful and timely manners without (HaHa) making fun of my naive questions. I have been reading the "key" issues here and have a question or two of my own. I got my '97 from the original owner, a retired banker who drove from LA. to TX. on a regular basis, hence the 200k miles for 6k 1 year ago. Garage kept so it was in showroom condition and meticulously maintained. Maybe I'm showing off my prowess for getting a car I WANT at my price, after CARFAXing it, but was that a great deal or is my head still in the clouds over getting it? Sorry to have diverted but, my real question is I got two master keys but, no subkey. What to do? Also if I lose one of them, y'all only talked about '98's and above and what to do but, not 97's. Thanks in advance and happy to be in the ClubLexus team. LEXUSKIM

97 should act the same as the 98's as the immobilization system was almost identical. subkey? you mean a valet key? if you want one you can just buy one, have it cut, and program it.
