Anyone know if 90-92 brake system can be upgraded to 93&up. Upgrade 93 calipers, rotors and pads. Have anyone done that uggrade? Salvage yard sells it cheap.

David,

Yes, it can be done but I do think you need the steering knuckle to bolt the larger calipers on because the rotors are larger diameter. You will also need bigger rims...93-94 LS has the largest brakes and you will need the rims from the same year as well. I dont think the 95up LS rims fit on the 93-94 due to the size of the calipers.

I do know that stock 92-94 SC400 wagon wheels fit on the 94LS. I was bored one day and have the stock wheels from my SC4 sitting in storage...had the wheels off my 94LS to rotate and just tried the SC rims on. It fits.

Hope this helps, Oh yeah I did read your thread about brake problems. The 93-94 brakes are the way to go...100%. My 92LS eats brakepads and rotors on a consistant basis....and I use only Lexus parts....but, my 94LS is easy as pie on brakes and they work awesome.

How do the '94 brakes compare with the '97 (second gen?) brakes?

I just installed front pads (Lexus OEM) over the weekend on my '97 LS400 and noticed that the 4-piston top-loading calipers appear to be very similar to the last generation Supra.

Regards,

Selewis,

Can you snap a pic or two? Are you sure they were 4 piston? I thought they were big 2 piston calipers on the front. I will take a peek at a newer LS the next time I see one.

From all accounts...look in archives. The final word has been that the most heavy duty LS produced has been the 94 model. HD in terms of body structure, frame structure, suspension structure...ect. New features...hands down the newer LS are awesome....

Hi Dave. Absolutely they were 4 piston. I had to crack the bleeder valve in order to push in all of the pistons so I could slide the new pads in.

I won't be able to snap a pic at least until the weekend, but I checked out the Mark IV Supra site and found some brake info. This is basically the same Caliper that's on my '97 LS. See pic. I believe the LS400 has 12.4" front rotors, while the Supra Turbo has 12.6".

If 97 (2nd Gen) works, i would like to upgrade to bigger and better brake. I was going to order the new rotor today. I also find out in order to upgrade to new model, i also need to change the bracket. I will do more search on it.

David, keep in mind that you will probably need at a minimum 16" wheels to clear the 12.4" GEN 2 front rotors.

Anyone know if the MKIV Supra brake would work on 1990 LS400?
