98 LS Whinning Transmission
Hey guys,
I'm getting a high pitch whinning noise coming from the engine bay when I drive slow between 1st and 2nd gear (I assume).
I'm also getting harsh shifting from the transmission so I'm assuming the whinning noise may be from that. What should I know or do as a precaution before trying anything on the transmission? Tia

Can tell you right now just do a fluid drain. If this doesn't reduce the symptoms, there are other issues stemming from extended fluid use/neglect. Use Toyota Type IV fluid. There may be "compatible" but at this stage, use the manufacturer's fluid to remove any outside possibilities.
How many miles on car, when was the last tranny fluid service?
In same, I can be pretty sure that the differential is also due so have that done.
Sadly, there are far to many threads in our section about transmission problems. Those are good reads. Tranny screens, fluid changes, not to do power flushing...etc.
