I am a newbie here. This is my third Lexus. I currently own a GX470 (wifes car) and I bought a 1990 Lexus from the original owner a few months back. The car had 209K miles on it I had all the fluids changed and other that some issues with the front end arm (right side) the cars seems to be really tight.

First I have a pedigree on the car from birth. It has had all maintenance done at the proper times. Its white with cloth interior and no air shocks.

I am finding myself driving this car every day, I have owned it for three months and I have 213K miles on it now.

I own a 2004 Jaguar XJ8 (that I do love) but I notice I seem to like to jump in the Lexus and driving it. Its easy to drive, everything works, dont worry about door dings or putting miles on it. I feel like I could drive it across the US and feel real confindent about it.

But my question is: Am I just on borrowed time here? What is the true longevity of these LS 400's? The car is growing on me.....

If these cars are properly maintained, there are documented stories of them lasting well close to half a million if not more.

Cloth interior eh? I was under the assumption that leather was standard, and I thought it was weird that on the paperwork from the dealer, (I also have ALL the paperwork from the day the car rolled out of the dealership), it has listed leather as an option, pictures!

The basic mechanicals (engine, transmission) are good for 500,000 miles, BUT the car will break your bank account in other ways long before then because of so many things that can go wrong with the dash instruments, heating and AC system, windows and door locks, steering and suspension system, brake hydraulics, etc.

Welcome. If the car was well maintained...you can still expect to get a reasonable life from it. 250-300K+.

If it is clean...just because it is aging, I'd still try and avoid adding new body work. If it's a beater then new dings probably won't matter.

Yes the car was ordered with cloth interior. The original owner lived in PAlm Springs and its too hot for leather. Its a very rugged interior it is in almost perfect condition, when I see most of the leather interiors in these cars even only a few years old they are worn out.

I paid $2k for the car...no big investment (yet)

No the car is in really nice shape. It just seems that cars I dont worry about getting door dings don't get them and the cars I do, get em.

Most of the JDM Celsior models had the cloth interior, as it has already been mentioned, it is cooler in the summer.
Another difference is they lack the moon roof option, again to keep the car cooler.

Hey, I'm more impressed with the 928 in your garage - I love those old things but not enough to own one.

I've posted photos of the gray cloth interior of the white 1990 LS400 I drove from new until 2003 many times so I won't do it again. The cloth interior of my LS400 looked like new when I sold the car at 183,500 miles -- likely because food and drink were NEVER consumed in it.

I don't mind the leather in my 00 LS as much as I thought I might and my wife loves the heated seats but I sure would like that cloth interior back.

With help from the forum maintenance will be childs play compared to a 928!!

The 928 is my BABY! Its also a 1990. Its a show winner. I have every piece of paper on that baby since it was new from Window Sticker to its first oil change. One of the best most reliable cars I have ever owned. I drive the 928 when I go on long trips. A cruiser and it gets 22 miles per gallon on the freeway going 80.

Nice Porsche...always was one of my faves. No worries on the LS though, the one I have has been to the moon and back...(or around the equator 40 times if you like)

That is great to know. I love the car...its wierd its like a part of the family and I have only owned it for a few months. Probably because I bought it from the orignal owner (80 year old man).

Nice cars. I have a almost 170,000 on my LS. The car is awesome!

I did have a computer issue and O2 sensors that cost me some funds, but most of the other stuff (antenna, radio, dash lights, power steering gasket, window lock spring) I was able to fix with this site and it's links. At 100k I did replace the timing belt and water pump. I truly think the LS stands above the majority of todays cars.

Each and every time I sit in the LS I really enjoy the ride, feel and look. Of course I had to purchase some nice wheels and tint. If it was taken care of then it should go for another 50 to 100k with no major problems. I would look into the timing belt.

Good eye. Leather take quite a bit to maintain and most don't realize that until its too late.
