Default Stuck in Park

Teaching my nephew to drive, while in drive, coasting at idle speed, he jammed the shifter to PARK, before braking to a stop. Heard some chatter and now shifter will not release and car is stuck in driveway. What can I expect here? is transmission wacked? 94,LS400

Ohh, that doesn't sound good. The park solenoid might have jammed into whatever it goes into. You are physically unable to pull it out of park?

Hi,
As above you may have seriously damaged the transmission, when the vehicle is in park the "parking pawl" is engaged into the flywheel to lock the transmission, engaging whilst moving may have damaged this causing it now to jam.
Have you tried pressing the shift lock over ride button towards the rear of the shifter to see if the shift will then move?
Needless to say i wouldn't give your nephew any more lessons.

hit the shift lock, have him giving GENTLE tension on the lever while you try to rock the car gently from the outside.

It sounds like the parking pawl, jammed itself. Try doing what PureDrifter mentioned and let us know how it goes.

Be careful though, if the parking pawl fails the car could move even when the lever is in "Park" so be sure to using the parking brake till you find what the problem is.

sounds like the wheels may have shifted things when braking . get the rear wheels off the ground to remove any tension and try it .
